  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;

Full description:

Aims of the course:

1. to refine and extend the ability to use the most important physical laws, theories and concepts.

2. to develop the ability to describe the world according to modern physical theories.

3. to improve the ability to use the acquired knowledge in other fields of science and technology

4. To develop skills of using the acquired knowledge to solve problems, tasks and construct physical theories. 5.

5. To develop skills of conducting physical experiments, analyzing, explaining and interpreting measurement results.

Learning outcomes:

1. knows the basic concepts of uniform motion, rectilinear motion, uniformly variable motion, and circular motion.

2. knows Newton's principles of dynamics, the concept of momentum, the principle of conservation of momentum, the definition of kinetic and potential energy and the principle of conservation of mechanical energy, the laws of statics and rigid body motion.

3. know the fundamentals of statics and fluid dynamics.

4. knows basic concepts characterizing gravitational field and assumptions of special (STW) and general (OTW) theory of relativity, relativistic optics.

5. knows the basics of wave motion in elastic media and the basics of acoustics.

6. knows the basic concepts of phenomenological thermodynamics.

7. knows the basic concepts of electrostatics and magnetism and the basic laws describing direct and alternating current.

8. knows the principles of geometrical and wave optics.

9. knows basic phenomena occurring at the atomic scale, assumptions of quantum mechanics, and fundamentals of nuclear physics.

10. knows phenomena in the field of solid state physics and processes of wear and tear, friction and lubrication of machine elements.

11. knows methods of measurement of basic physical quantities, calculation methods and computer tools necessary for the analysis of measurement results.

12. is able to use the acquired knowledge to solve problems and tasks.

13. is able to obtain information from literature, databases and other sources.

14. is able to conduct physical experiments and analyze, explain and interpret their results.

15. is able to apply the principles of safety and hygiene at work.

16. is able to analyze simple diagnostic signal processing systems using appropriate hardware and software techniques and tools.

17. is able to co-operate in group work and take various roles in it.
