Full description:

Aims of the course:

1. Structure of matter. States of matter (properties of gases, liquids and solids, liquid crystals, Plasma). Basic chemical concepts and laws. Atoms (atomic structure, elementary particles, atomic number atomic number, mass number, isotopes). Bohr's theory, quantum mechanical theory, quantum numbers, Atomic orbital, electron configuration of the atom. Periodic table and properties of elements. Bonds Chemical bonds.

2. Classification and nomenclature of inorganic compounds. Types of chemical reactions. Equations of reactions. Chemical reactions. Chemical kinetics and statics. Chemical reactions (types, energy effects), fundamentals. Thermodynamics: phase transitions, phase rule. Chemical equilibria, equilibrium constant, shifts. Chemical equilibria, equilibrium constant, shifts in chemical equilibrium, rule of the contrariwise.

3. Chemistry of solutions. Ways of expressing concentrations. pH of a solution. Equilibria in solutions. Solutions. Colloidal solutions - structure, properties. Electrolyte solutions, dissociation, conductivity, definitions. Acidity, solvolysis/hydrolysis. Basic concepts of electrochemistry. Practical aspects of electrochemistry. (corrosion of metals, electrolysis, electroplating). Corrosion of metals and alloys. Protection against corrosion.

4. Fundamentals of organic chemistry. Saturated, unsaturated, cyclic, aromatic hydrocarbons. Derivatives Hydrocarbon derivatives. Polymers. Physicochemical properties of petroleum fractions. Chemical reactions in Refinery and petrochemical processes. Diesel oils. Lubricating oils. Fuels, oils, lubricants vs. corrosion of metals. Environmental chemistry.

5. Health and safety regulations. Basic laboratory techniques, laboratory equipment. Determination of sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid in aqueous solution.

6. Determine the effect of reactant concentration and temperature on the rate of a chemical reaction.

7. Testing the corrosion resistance of metals.

8. Determination of engine oil aqueous extract reaction, engine oil acid number, acidity petroleum product. Determination of base number by potentiometric method.

9. Self-study: literary study, preparation for the lecture, laboratory, and credit.

KNOWLEDGE – A STUDENT KNOWS AND UNDERSTANDS:

1. Understands basic principles of applied laboratory techniques, demonstrates skills in the use of laboratory equipment

2. Knows the division and basic properties of consumables

3. Is aware of the responsibility for his/her own work within a team.

4. Analyzes the properties of consumables.

SKILLS – A STUDENT IS ABLE TO:

1. Knows and applies chemical terms, chemical nomenclature, chemical laws, rules of Occupational Health and Safety in force in a chemistry laboratory.

2. Explains and makes practical use of chemical phenomena

3. Is able to work in a team in the framework of jointly performed laboratory tasks.
