ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 5.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Aims of the course:

1. Introducing students to the knowledge of technical mechanics in the field of kinematics and dynamics.

2. Developing students' skills in solving practical tasks in kinematics and dynamics.

3. Understanding by students of mechanical phenomena in nature and technology.

4. Developing students' skills of responsible interaction and communication in a group.

KNOWLEDGE – A STUDENT KNOWS AND UNDERSTANDS:

1. definition of the moments of inertia of a rigid body;

2. a definition of velocity and acceleration of a material point as well as the term of the tangent and normal acceleration components, knows the concept of uniform and uniformly accelerated motion along a straight line;

3. classification of rigid body motions (rotational motion of a rigid body, planar motion of a rigid body, spherical motion of a rigid body, arbitrary motion of a rigid body);

4. the relationship between the velocities and accelerations of two points of a rigid body in plane motion;

5. Newton's second law of motion, differential equation of motion of a material point, initial conditions;

6. the terms of mechanical work, kinetic and potential energy, the principle of work and energy, and the principle of conservation of mechanical energy;

7. the principle of momentum of material systems;

8. the principle of virtual work.

SKILLS – A STUDENT IS ABLE TO:

9. calculate moments of inertia;

10. solve point kinematics problems for rectilinear motion;

11. calculate velocity and acceleration vector, tangent and normal components of acceleration and radius of path curvature in any point motion;

12. calculate velocities and accelerations for points of plane mechanisms;

13. integrate simple cases of point equations of motion taking into account the friction force;

14. solve tasks using the principle of work and Energy;

15. solve problems using the principle of conservation of momentum and the principle of momentum;

16. solve problems in statics using the principle of virtual work.
