Full description:

Forensic entomology is the study of the insects associated with a dead body. This course offers introduction to issue from theoretical and practical perspective.

Insects, which lead to decay of dead organic substance of animal origin, as well as human corpse, are of the police and prosecutions’ interests. Within entomology a specialty has been created, which deals with this issue i.e. forensic entomology. It covers entomological traces and principles of dealing with them. This course will introduce students to the standards of revealing, securing the traces and evidence crime as well as making use of entomological traces, which are conducted by policemen who run an inspection of the locus in quo at the place of event.

We recognise forensic entomology as science originating from law, forensic medicine, biological science and related sciences such us: criminology and criminalistic. Students will develop a general understanding of fundamental theory and practical trends in forensic entmology.

The course makes use of wide range of case studies to provide students in modern laboratory with authentic documents and instruments from police and prosecutors office.

After the course studens will understand the value of forensic entymology, comprehend the basic scientific and entomological principles and will be able to indicate and describe trends in police and prosecutors investigations in XXI society.
