  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Issues that will be discussed in detail during the course:

Basic factors in the evolution of security of states and international systems, contemporary understanding of security, subject vs. object dimension of understanding security, institutionalization of international security, new challenges to security, forecast trends and changes in the area of security, contemporary threats to security, mechanisms of cooperation in the area of security, state internal security, the concept and areas of internal security.

After the course the student will know theoretical basics of knowledge on the reasons of security evolution over centuries or in a specific historical period, will define basic terms in the field of contemporary security, understand the essence of current challenges and threats to security. He/she will also know and be able to indicate and describe the subjective and objective dimension of security. Moreover, he/she will have knowledge about relations between theory and practice of security and the phenomenon of its institutionalization. The student will know and understand competences and the scope of activity of basic security institutions. Moreover, he/she will be able to Independently interpret and compare the process of all kinds of changes affecting the functioning of international, national and internal security institutions, and based on their own interpretation, to analyze and express their opinion in a written form on the issues discussed during the classes.

The student will also be able to appreciate the impact of external and internal challenges and threats on national and regional security, including in the aspect of protection of cultural, historical, social heritage, and to properly assess the basic entities responsible for international security and internal security. Moreover he/she will be able to comply with law regulations and ethical rules, in particular in terms of shaping the security environment.
