Issues that will be discussed in detail during the course:

Sociology and security sciences (basic concepts of sociology in the interpretation of the social basis of security), The concept of security, typologies, macrostructural aspects of security (macrosocial and microsocial factors of security threats from the perspective of group process dynamics), Social sense of security and its determinants (sociological mechanisms of counteracting threats to public security), sociology and psychology of conflicts, prejudices and stereotypes (sociological theories explaining formation of stereotypes and prejudices), phenomenon of crime among adults and juveniles, correctional and isolation institutions.

After the course the student will have the basic knowledge of sociology as an empirical science. Moreover, he/she will be able to explain processes and mechanisms that determine public safety based on sociological theories, diagnose factors that increase social risk, and to critically analyze current events that affect the public's sense of security.

He or she will also be prepared to both critically and independently analyze the social processes that determine a sense of security and to identify the micro- and macro-social factors underlying criminogenic behavior.
