Introduction to the Polish language 3 ECTS, 30 h

Course description:

The course is designed for foreigners. The aim of the course is to train and develop basic skills in communication, listening, reading and writing so that purpose in everyday situations, both in the course of studies and in extracurricular activities.

Content:

1. Introduction. Polish alphabet, transcription, phonetics.

2. Politeness formulas. Greetings. Saying good-bye. Getting acquainted. Personal pronouns.

3. Social relationships, social interactions.

4. Noun gender, number. Colors.

5. Personal data. Basic verbs conjugation. Countries.

6. Numbers. Numerals. Days of the week. Date. Time.

7. Extracurricular activities.

8. Tests and oral exam.

Goals and objectives of the course in terms of competences and skills:

The aim of the study course is to promote active linguistic communication in everyday situations, as well as acquisition of the fundamentals of the Polish grammar. Study course objectives: 1) to introduce students to the fundamentals of the language (Polish alphabet, phonetics, morphologic structures, basic syntactic structures); 2) to develop students' reading skills reading elementary texts; 3) to develop speaking skills taking part in situational monologues, dialogues, conversations on topical issues concerning studies and everyday activities; 4) to develop writing skills completing short writing tasks.

Learning outcomes and assessment:

 Is able to read and comprehend the content of simple monologues, dialogues and elementary texts. - Home tasks, assessment tests.

 Is able to comprehend the gist of audio/video records of dialogues/monologues on topical everyday issues. - Assessment tests, interviews.

 Is able to communicate simple questions and participate in basic discussions. - Home tasks, assessment tests, presentation.

 Is able to write a short note/ text using the relevant vocabulary and grammatical constructions - Home tasks.

Evaluation criteria of study results:

Attendance, work during classes – 10%

Assessment tests – 10%

Home tasks, presentations – 10%

Exam – 70%
